Yulia Chekmareva

For 20+ years Yulia advises UHNWI/HNWIs on non-contentious matters, focusing mainly on family law cases and acquisitions of real estate, art and antiquities, fine instruments and private aircraft/yachts.

Yulia is also particularly strong on philanthropic projects, and has been acting as a legal expert in drafting amendments to the Russian legislation on charity and non-profit organisations, including preferential tax treatment and endowments.



Advised a Russian UHNWI on the legal and tax aspects of potential sale of two pre-owned business-jets in the UK and Switzerland, including negotiating and obtaining the manufacturer’s mandatory approval of sale and drafting transaction documents for different sale scenarios. Matter value: $22 m (2020-2022)

Advised a Forbes-listed individual on the legal risks involved in purchasing paintings and a collection of old medals, including assistance with their authenticity and provenance examination. Total objets d'art value: $6 m (2020-2021)

Advised a Russian UHNWI on selling their luxury apartment in Germany, including drafting the transaction documents and providing an opinion on potential tax implications. Matter value: €10 m (2020-2021)

Advised a Russian Forbes-listed businessperson on all legal and tax aspects of financing and purchasing a private jet. Matter value: $60 m (2017)

Advised a high-net-worth individual on all legal and tax issues regarding financing, acquiring and importing into Russia two unique musical instruments: a Stradivarius violin and a centuries-old cello. Average cost of each instrument: €1 m+ (2016)

Advises a number of high-net-worth individuals on choosing the optimal jurisdiction for marriage and prenuptial agreements in the event of future divorce and/or division of property, and drafts nuptial agreements (on a regular basis)

Advised several private clients on the legal and tax risks of purchasing 500+ pieces of art, including paintings by realist, impressionist, suprematist and severe style artists. Total value: $31.5 m (2018-present)
